Alderete: "Every game is useful for getting on the pace"
Omar Alderete's first unofficial goal for Valencia CF did not take long in coming, as he found the net in the friendly with FC Cartagena from a corner. The defender, who joined the club this summer on loan, talked to VCF Media after the final whistle in the 3-2 win.
"These games are for trying out what we've been doing in training and what the coach wants," he said.
"In the first half we struggled a little, and were slow in bringing the ball out and getting into possession. We corrected that in the second half and had a better game. Every game is useful for getting on the pace. Winning is also important, for our confidence."
The Paraguayan has got straight to work integrating into the squad, and has been training hard to get up to speed as quickly as possible.
"As I've said before, my teammates have welcomed me very well. They are all good people and that also helps you to adapt quickly to how they play on the pitch -and how they are off it, which is also important.
"Last week we were training very hard. Now we will see what the coach wants, and what he wants us to work on for the upcoming friendlies."
As for his goal, Alderete explained the circumstances behind it.
"I'm happy. I don't score many goals, but I always push up, support the team and do what I can.
"I spoke with Cheryshev before he took the corner. Whoever takes them always does well, so we have to try to take advantage of those crosses."
